അപ്പു എന്ന് ആരാധകര്‍ക്കിടയില്‍ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന പുനീത് പ്രശസ്ത നടന്‍ രാജ്കുമാറിന്റെ മകനാണ്. അമ്മ പാര്‍വതമ്മ. മുപ്പതോളം കന്നഡ ചിത്രങ്ങളില്‍ നായകനായി അഭിനയിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട്. ബാല താരമായിട്ടായിരുന്നു തുടക്കം. ‘ബേട്ടഡ് ഹൂവു’ എന്ന ചിത്രത്തിലെ അഭിനയത്തിന് 1985ല്‍ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന് മികച്ച ബാലതാരത്തിനുള്ള ദേശീയ പുരസ്‌കാരം ലഭിച്ചു. മികച്ച ബാലതാരത്തിനുള്ള കര്‍ണാടക സംസ്ഥാന പുരസ്‌കാരവും രണ്ടു തവണ സ്വന്തമാക്കി. 2002ലിറങ്ങിയ ‘അപ്പു’ എന്ന ചിത്രമാണ് കന്നഡ സിനിമയില്‍ പുനീതിന്റെ നായകസ്ഥാനം ഉറപ്പാക്കിയത്. അഭി, വീര കന്നഡിഗ. റാം, അന്‍ജാനി പുത്ര തുടങ്ങിയ ചിത്രങ്ങളില്‍ നായകനായിരുന്നു.
ഹൃദയാഘാതത്തെത്തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഇന്ന് രാവിലെയാണ് ബെംഗളൂരുവിലെ ആശുപത്രിയില്‍ പ്രവേശിപ്പിച്ചത് ഇന്നുരാവിലെ ജിംനേഷ്യത്തില്‍ വ്യായാമം ചെയ്യുന്നതിനിടെയാണ് ഹൃദയാഘാതം അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടത്. യാതൊരുവിധത്തിലുമുള്ള ആരോഗ്യ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളും പിനീത് രാജുമാറിന് നേരത്തെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. പൂര്‍ണ ആരോഗ്യവാനായ പുനീത് ഫിറ്റ്നസ്റ്റ് ഫ്രീക്കുമാണ്. പെട്ടന്നുള്ള വാര്‍ത്തയുടെ നടുക്കത്തിലാണ് ആരാധകരും വേണ്ടപ്പെട്ടവരും.
